RESTON, VA —
Frostburg State freshman John Wheaton (Clearwater, Fla./Osbourn Park (Va.))
has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 38-17 win over two-time defending Atlantic Central Football Conference champion Wesley.
Wheaton was honored as the top punter in Division III last week after punting five times for an average of 35.4 yards and pinning three kicks inside the Wesley 5 (4,4,2) to help the Bobcats win the battle of field position.
Additionally, with FSU holding a 23-6 lead in the early moments of the fourth quarter, Wheaton recovered a bad punt snap 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage and, with several Wolverine players giving chase, booted the ball 28 yards to help FSU avoid possible disaster.
Wheaton currently ranks fourth in Division III in punting with a 42.0-yard average.
"This is a great honor for John," said Bobcat head coach Rubin Stevenson. "He played a crucial role in our win over Wesley, and he's enjoying an outstanding rookie season."
