FROSTBURG, MD —
Frostburg State junior forward Jon Wieland (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton)
has been named to the 2001 NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team.
Wieland, who was voted to the third team, led the Bobcats with 14 assists and 32 points and tied for the team lead with nine goals. He set career highs in all three categories.
After starting the year as a defender, Wieland was moved to the front line for more scoring punch, and the speedster produced, notching eight goals in FSU's final 10 games.
He set a Bobcat single-game record with five assists in a 5-1 win over Washington & Jefferson October 17, and he took home three of the final four AMCC Player of the Week awards.
Wieland helped lead the Bobcats to a 12-7-1 overall record, their fifth straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title and their second consecutive AMCC Tournament championship.
FSU advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament for the 10th time in the last 16 years.
