— Frostburg State senior outfielder Lance Williams (Herndon, Va./W.T. Woodson)
and junior pitcher Collin Bednar (Salisbury, Md./Glen Burnie)
were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week Monday.
Williams went 6-for-13 (.462), recorded six RBIs and scored four runs in a 4-0 week for the Bobcats, who swept AMCC rival Pitt-Bradford (8-2, 5-4) and non-conference opponent Waynesburg (6-3, 11-2). Williams also smacked two doubles and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases.
Bednar picked up his first two wins of the season last week. Against Pitt-Bradford, he gave up one earned run and struck out six in five innings in an 8-2 victory. He then pitched 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief against Waynesburg, allowing one baserunner and striking out two in the 6-3 victory.
The Bobcats are 28-11 overall and 17-1 in the AMCC and will host the league tournament this weekend at Bobcat Field. FSU opens the competition when it plays Pitt-Bradford Friday at 9:00 am.
