Women's Basketball Beats Mt. Aloysius
FROSTBURG, MD —
Senior Kenya Broadnax (Jessup, Md./Howard)
posted a double-double and freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech)
added 20 points to lead the Frostburg State women’s basketball team to a 88-62 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mt. Aloysius Tuesday evening at Bobcat Arena.
FSU improved to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the AMCC, while MTA fell to 3-13 and 0-9 in the league.
The Bobcats took an early 8-3 lead approximately one minute into play off a jumper from Wright. A few minutes later, the Mounties tied the game at 8-8 with 17:43 on the clock.
However, Frostburg State would pull away and lead by as much as 13 off back-to-back free throws by Wright. Mt. Aloysius never came within four points, and the Bobcats led 51-40 at intermission.
In the second half, FSU continued to dominate the game with a 13-0 run in the first five minutes.
Sophomore Amanda LaPorta (Westminster, Md./Westminster) would give Frostburg State it’s largest lead of 28 points with 25 seconds left in the game. The Bobcats shot 47% from the floor and held the Mounties to only 29.9%.
Broadnax had a game-high 20 points, 13 boards and two blocks. Junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) added 11 points, nine assists and two steals.
The Mounties were led by sophomore Ashley O’Shell with 18 points and three steals and freshman Broke Bryner added 13 points and five boards.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, January 27 when they travel to Penn State Behrend for an AMCC contest beginning at 6:00 pm.
