Women's Basketball Can't Topple Bethany

BETHANY, WV — Kelley Richardson scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead host Bethany (W.Va.) College to a 92-67 win over Frostburg State in the Bethany Holiday Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Bison won for the sixth straight time to improve to 6-1, while the Bobcats lost for the third time in their last four games to fall to 5-3.

Bethany held a 9-5 lead after the first four minutes of play before taking control with a 16-2 run to open a 25-7 advantage.

The Bobcats closed to within 11, 30-19, on a jumper by freshman Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) with 7:35 in the half, but Richardson scored eight points in a 14-5 stretch to keep FSU at bay.

The Bobcats, who trailed 46-32 at the intermission, came out on fire to start the second half and trimmed their deficit to 53-47 at the 15:01 mark.

Sophomore Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany) scored 11 of FSU's first 15 points of the second period before Bethany opened up some breathing room behind Richardson and Babik.

Richardson drained three straigth shots for the Bison, while Babik sank a pair of three-pointers to help the hosts take a 70-51 lead. Bethany led by as many as 33, 91-58, with 2:24 to play .

Senior Holly Myers (York, Pa./York) led Frostburg State with a season-high 21 points, while Little added 19 points and 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

Senior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) finished with eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The Bobcats committed a season-low 17 turnovers but were held to 35.1 percent (27-of-77) shooting from the floor.

Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Mount Aloysius for a 7:00 pm contest.
