— Sophomore Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook)
scored a team-high 17 points to lead Frostburg State to a 64-49 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert, Friday evening at Hafner Recreation Center.
The Bobcats, having never trailed in the game, held a slim 13-10 lead at the 13:45 mark in the first half before taking control on a 13-2 run capped by a freshman Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) three-pointer at 8:29. At 2:56, Hargrove drained a jumper to give the Bobcats (8-4, 5-0 AMCC) an 11-point lead, 37-26.
Kristen Curry scored eight straight points for the Hawks to narrow the gap to 37-34 with 1:17 remaining. Hargrove drained another jumper to stop the Hilbert charge, giving FSU a five-point lead at the break, 39-34.
In the second half, Frostburg State opened up a nine-point lead, 45-36, at the 14:18 mark on two sophomore Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) free throws. Hilbert used a 9-2 run to close the gap to three points at 47-44 with 9:04 remaing. That was as close as the Hawks would get as the Bobcats put together a 17-2 run to open their largest lead of the game at 64-46 with 1:38 left.
Senior Tracey Little(LaVale, Md./Allegany) scored 13 points and needs just 41 to tie Mary Carol Jackson for eighth place on the career scoring list with 1,355. Sophomore Ashley Mello (Joppa, Md./Edgewood) scored 12 points while junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) pulled down nin rebounds.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow at 4:00 pm when they travel to Medaille for another AMCC contest.
