Women's Basketball Defeats Pitt-Bradford, 62-53

BRADFORD, PA — Four Frostburg State players scored in double figures to lead the women’s basketball team to a 62-53 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford Saturday evening.

Katie Moore gave the Panthers (6-12, 4-7 AMCC) a 10-6 lead at 14:43 with a three pointer. The Bobcats (12-5, 8-3 AMCC) would come back and tie the game at 10 apiece one minute later off a jumper from junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber).

On the ensuing FSU possession, junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) made a basket that put the visitors ahead for good. With just 3:20 left in the opening stanza, senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) gave Frostburg State its largest lead, 27-18.

At the end of the first half, Jen Cole made a jumper that narrowed the UPB deficit to 29-24.

Early in the second half, the Panthers came within three points, 29-26 at the 19:13 mark. However, FSU pushed its lead back to nine points on two free throws by George with 12:54 to play.

The Bobcats would take their largest lead of the game, 61-48, with 51 seconds left before going on to capture the win.

Senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) paced FSU with 17 points and eight rebounds. George added 16 points and a team-high four assists, freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) netted 13 points and Hargrove totaled 10 points.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, January 31 when they host Penn State Altoona for an AMCC contest beginning at 6:00 pm.
