FROSTBURG, MD —
Five Frostburg State women’s basketball players scored in double figures to lead the team to a 78-45 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert Friday night at Bobcat Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the AMCC, while the Hawks fell to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the league.
FSU jumped to an early 6-0 lead just 1:30 into play. The trend continued at 12:44 when The Bocats earned a 19-4 lead off a layup from junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber). They would go on to lead by as much as 19 with 27 second left in the first half when redshirt-sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) netted a two-pointer. Frostburg State lead 36-20 at the break.
In the second half, FSU continued to control the game with a 16-5 run five minutes into play. The Bobcats shot 53% from the floor, holding HC to 30%.
Freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) had a game-high 16 points, George added 13 points, seven assists and one block and senior Melanie Herget (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) added 12 points. Hernandez and junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) added 10 points apiece.
On the defensive side, senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) paced the team with eight rebounds and seven steals and also added seven assists.
Sophomore Amanda McHale was the only Lady Hawk to score in double figures with 10 points.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow as they host Medaille in an AMCC game beginning at 2:00 pm.
