FROSTBURG, MD —
Sophomore Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany)
recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Frostburg State to an 80-61 win over Lake Erie Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
Little went 9-for-12 from the field and hit 4-of-5 shots from the free-throw line to surpass the 20-point plateau for the fifth time this year.
Senior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) added 17 points and nine rebounds, while classmate Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) had 16 points, four rebounds and six assists.
FSU (8-10, 3-4 AMCC) came out hot and opened a 12-4 lead behind eight points from Little. Lake Erie (5-14, 3-4) closed to within 15-9, but a Faust jumper capped a 7-2 spurt that gave the Bobcats a 22-11 cushion with 7:42 left in the first half.
The Storm countered with seven straight points to trim the FSU lead to four, 22-18, but consecutive jumpers by Faust and Little and a three-pointer by Myers pushed the Bobcat advantage to 30-18 with 2:29 remaining.
Lake Erie closed out the half with a 6-0 run and trailed, 30-24, at the break.
The Bobcats looked to break away early in the second half, opening with a 12-5 run to take a 42-29 lead. Little, Faust and Myers combined for 10 points in the surge, but Lake Erie made another charge.
The Storm used an 8-0 stretch to cut its deficit to five, 42-37; however, Myers drained a three-pointer and Faust followed with a basket to push the Bobcats back in front by 10.
Danisha Garrison sandwiched lay-ups around a Carletta Harrell jumper in a 6-0 Storm run that made it a 47-43 contest with 11:37 to go, but Myers led FSU on a 9-0 spurt by feeding freshman Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) for three straight lay-ups and assisting on a three-pointer by senior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) as the Bobcats opened a 56-43 cushion.
Lake Erie made a final run, pulling to within 56-49, with 8:48 remaining, but Myers drained her third and fourth three-pointers of the day in an 11-0 Bobcat rally that sealed the win.
FSU led by as many as 24, 77-53, on a lay-up by Little with 2:55 to play.
The Bobcats, who tied their season-high with seven made three-pointers, return to action on Tuesday when they visit Villa Julie for a 6:00 contest.
