FROSTBURG, MD —
Frostburg State has earned the No. 8 seed in the 2004 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women's Southern Basketball Championship and will travel to face No. 1 DeSales (21-5) in the first round Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
The Bobcats (16-11) will be making their 13th postseason appearance, including their seventh in the ECAC Championship.
FSU, which last earned a postseason bid in 1997 when it was selected to the NCAA Division III Tournament, won ECAC titles in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990.
The Bobcats also finished as the runners-up in 1987, losing to Allentown (ironically now known as DeSales) in the first round of the 1995 ECAC Championship.
In Wednesday's other first-round games, No. 2 Lebanon Valley (20-5) will host No. 7 Westminster (15-10), No. 3 King's (19-8) will host No. 6 Washington & Jefferson (18-8) and No. 4 Moravian (18-9) will host No. 5 Catholic (21-6).
The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, March 6 at the highest remaining seed.
The winner of DeSales and Frostburg State will face the winner of Moravian and Catholic in one semifinal, while the winner of Lebanon Valley and Westminster will face the winner of King’s and Washington and Jefferson in the other semifinal.
The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, March 7 for the championship.
Game times have yet to be determined.
