FROSTBURG, MD —
Junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin)
scored a game-high 29 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, but Frostburg State couldn't overcome 32.4 percent shooting and fell to visiting La Roche College, 67-62, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena.
The Bobcats (5-12, 2-4 AMCC), who trailed by as many as 15, 48-33, early in the second half, faced a 53-42 deficit at the 8:04 mark before Faust took control.
The 5-10 forward scored 13 straight points for her squad to make it a 61-56 Redhawk lead with 3:48 remaining.
However, FSU missed its next six shots and La Roche escaped with the narrow win.
La Roche (8-6, 3-3) and the Bobcats battled through a tight first half of action, as neither team could move in front by more than three points through the first 17 minutes.
A Faust layup put FSU ahead, 22-20, with 5:36 to play in the stanza, but the Redhawks used an 11-2 spurt to take a 31-24 advantage at the 1:48 mark.
Bobcat junior Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) sank consecutive jumpers to bring FSU to within three, 31-28, in the closing seconds before La Roche scored the final basket of the half to take a 33-28 lead at the break.
The Redhawks opened the second half with a 15-5 run to move ahead, 48-33, with 13:02 to play, before fending off Faust's scoring outburst to pull out the victory.
Myers finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Bobcats, who shot just 23-of-71 from the field and 12-of-25 from the free throw line.
Freshman Sherry Hogue led La Roche with 24 points, while fellow rookie Johnetta Owens added 13. Junior Brittany Rosser and sophomore Lisa Henderson each added 11 points.
Frostburg State will visit Lake Erie on Saturday at 2 p.m.
