ERIE, PA —
Sophomore Nikki Pacinelli scored a game-high 15 points to lead four Penn State Behrend players in double figures as the Lions downed visiting Frostburg State 66-47 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference showdown Saturday at the Junker Center.
Penn State Behrend won its fifth straight to improve to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the AMCC, while Frostburg State had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in the AMCC.
After toppling defending league champion Pitt-Greensburg 82-60 Wednesday night, the Bobcats struggled to find their scoring touch all afternoon against the Lions. FSU missed 14 of its first 17 shots, fell behind 16-6 midway through the first half and could not recover.
Penn State Behrend, which won for the 10th time in its last 11 games, hit 12-of-27 (44.4 percent) from the field in the first half and took a 30-19 lead into the break.
The Lions continued to pull away in the second half, as Pacinelli drained a three-pointer to give her squad a 49-25 lead with 11:06 to play.
Frostburg State got no closer than 14 the rest of the way and finished 20-of-62 (32.3 percent) from the floor.
"We were just out of sync today," said Bobcat head coach Jody Pepple. "Penn State Behrend showed up to play and we didn't."
Freshman Krysten Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led FSU with 14 points, while freshman Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) added 11.
Bobcat junior Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany), who had 32 points and 18 rebounds in Wednesday's win over UPG, had a rare off-day, scoring just two points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Little did have a career-high seven blocks, tying Mary Carol Jackson for the second-highest single-game total in FSU history. Katrina Powell blocked a school-record 10 shots versus Lincoln February 19, 1994.
Freshman Tenesha Aden had 13 points for Penn State Behrend, while senior Erica Mozdy and freshman Brittany Mays each added 11.
Frostburg State returns to action Wednesday at Penn State Altoona at 6:00 pm.
