02/27/2006

GIBSONIA, Pa. — The Frostburg State women’s basketball team placed four players on the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference basketball team led by freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech), who was selected as the league’s Co-Newcomer of the Year.

Senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) and junior Krytsin Hargrove (Silverspring, Md./Springbrook) were second team selections.

Watts is currently second in the country with 4.7 steals per game. She led the AMCC in defensive rebounds per game (6.93), finished second in assists per game (4.56), fifth in blocks per game (1.41) and sixth in rebounds per game (8.1). She finished fourth on the FSU squad with 8.3 points per game. She set the FSU single-game record for steals with 13 in a win over Hood earlier this season (Dec. 9).

Hargrove joined Watts as a second team all-conference honoree. Hargrove led the Bobcats and finished third in the league in scoring with 14.7 points per game. She also ranked third in the league in steals (80) and ninth in assists (73). Hargrove guided FSU to a 91-60 win over Hilbert in the opening round of the AMCC tournament last Tuesday, with a career-high 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting.

Junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) was honored with her third straight all-conference selection after being named to the third team. George finished the season fourth in the AMCC in assists per game (3.74) and three-point field goals made (35), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.09) and sixth in points per game (12.8). She was named the AMCC Player of the Week on Nov. 21.

Wright ranks eighth in the league in points per game (12.6) and tenth in offensive rebounds per game (2.62). She finished second on the team with 16 blocks. In her first AMCC tournament, she scored 13 points in an opening round win over Hilbert and followed that up with a 12-point performance in the semifinals against conference runner-up Pitt-Greensburg.

Frostburg State finished the season 18-9 overall and 13-6 in the AMCC.
