Women's Basketball Picked Second in AMCC Preseason Poll
11/03/2006

GIBSONIA, PA — The Frostburg State University women’s basketball team has been picked to finish second in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference according to a vote taken by the league’s head coaches.

The Bobcats return three starters and four letterwinners from last year’s sqaud that posted a 18-10 overall record and finished third in the conference with a 13-5 mark.

FSU earned its third-straight postseason appearance, earning the eighth seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southern Women’s Basketball Championship.

For the second-consecutive season, Medaille is the favorite to win the women’s title. The Lady Mavericks(26-2, 18-0) captured last year’s AMCC Tournament with a 79-59 win over Pitt-Greensburg in the championship game.

In the NCAA Tournament, MC defeated Washington & Jefferson in the first round (73-55) before falling to Rochester in the East Regional final (57-44).

Medaille junior forward Amanda Baker is the Preseason Player of the Year after winning the award in 2005-06. The Honorable Mention All-American selection averaged 15.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last year.

Frostburg State opens its season against Grove City on November 17th in Jim Crawley Classic at Bobcat Arena at 8:00 pm.
