— The Frostburg State University women’s basketball team has been picked to finish third in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference according to a vote taken by the league’s head coaches.
The Bobcats return three starters and eight letterwinners from last year’s sqaud that posted a 21-7 overall record and finished first in the AMCC with a 16-2 mark. FSU won the AMCC tournament and earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, where it lost to host McDaniel in the first round, 71-64.
Medaille, which boasts two returning first-team all-conference players, is the favorite to win the women’s title. The Lady Mavericks (20-7, 14-4 AMCC) finished third in last year’s regular-season standings and lost to Pitt-Greensburg 72-70, in the AMCC Tournament semifinals.
Pitt-Greensburg, last year’s runner-up, was picked to finish second. UPG (20-9, 15-3) has finshed in second place each of the last two seasons.
Medaille sophomore forward Amanda Baker is the Preseason Player of the Year. The Co-Player and Newcomer of the Year last season, averaged 18.8 points and 11.3 rebounds.
Frostburg State opens its season against Rutgers-Camden on November 18th in Jim Crawley Classic at home.
