Women's Basketball Rallies Past Mt. Aloysius
12/09/2003

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State junior Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany) scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year as the Bobcats erased a 12-point second-half deficit to post a hard-fought 80-72 win over Mount Aloysius Tuesday night at Bobcat Arena.

The Bobcats improved to 6-3 with their first-ever win over the Lady Mounties in five all-time meetings. Mount Aloysius fell to 0-7.

Despite having only five players on its roster, Mount Aloysius held a 51-39 lead with 16:03 left.

However, the Bobcats took advantage of six straight misses and a turnover to outscore the Lady Mounties 16-4 over the next five minutes and take a 56-55 lead.

Freshman Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) led the charge by scoring eight of her career-high 18 points in the rally, while Little added six.

The teams were then tied at 63 with 6:07 remaining before Frostburg State went on a 13-3 run to open some breathing room.

Sophomore Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) led a 7-0 spurt, hitting a jumper to put the Bobcats in front for good before assisting on a three-pointer by George and a layup by freshman Krysten Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook).

True finished with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year.

FSU opened a 76-66 cushion with 1:46 left, but Mount Aloysius closed to within 78-72 with 34 seconds to play.

Sophomore Joanie Herget (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) sealed it with a pair of free throws with 17 ticks left.

Mount Aloysius battled to a 15-15 tie midway through the first half before going on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes.

The Bobcats trimmed their deficit to just three, 28-25, with 4:44 left in the half, but the Lady Mounties responded with 10 straight points to open a 38-25 advantage.

Sophomore Ashley Mello (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) sank a pair of baskets, including one at the buzzer, to bring FSU to within 40-31 at halftime.

Bobcat junior Jamie Cable (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) finished with 10 points as four Bobcats scored in double digits for the second time in three games.

Mount Aloysius junior Michele Sauserman finished with 20 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while senior Lacy Baird added 20 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Allisa Buchanan had 15 points and eight rebounds, and junior Missy Wertz had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Frostburg State returns to action when it hosts the Jim Crawley Classic Friday and Saturday, January 2-3, 2004. Westminster faces New Jersey City Friday at 6, while Frostburg State takes on Waynesburg at 8.
