Women's Basketball Slips Past Pitt-Bradford
01/19/2002

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) scored a career-high 20 points, and junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) added 15 points and 19 rebounds as Frostburg State downed Pitt-Bradford, 84-78, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

Parker shot 7-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-7 from three-point range, and added five rebounds and three steals to help the Bobcats (4-11, 2-3 AMCC) snap a four-game losing streak.

Parker and fellow junior Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) each hit a pair of three-pointers as FSU opened a 24-11 lead at the midway point of the first half.

Pitt-Bradford (5-11, 2-3) capped a 15-4 run with six straight points to close to within two, 28-26, with 4:27 to play in the opening stanza, but Parker and Myers again hit from long range as FSU took a 40-36 lead into halftime.

The teams then battled through a tight first 10 minutes of the second half which featured four ties and seven lead changes.

After the Panthers moved ahead, 54-53, the Bobcats countered with an 11-4 run. Parker began the spurt with another three-pointer, and junior Jonee Jones (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg) then scored FSU's next six points before junior Christina Bleivik (Houston, Pa./Bartlett) capped the surge with a pair of free throws to give the Bobcats a 64-58 lead at the 8:44 mark.

Parkers sank two more shots from behind the arc to help keep Pitt-Bradford at bay, and Bleivik sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

Myers finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and she tied her season-high with seven assists. Faust's 19 rebounds was the fifth-highest single-game total in school history.

Sophomore Jessica Porter led Pitt-Bradford with 19 points, while sophomore Cara Booth added 18 points. Freshman Katie Burton posted 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Frostburg State will visit Ursinus on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
