— Senior Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany)
scored 19 points to lead four Frostburg State players in double figures as the Bobcats thumped visiting Lake Erie 87-24 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Friday night at Bobcat Arena.
Little moved into ninth place on the Bobcat all-time scoring list with 1,264 career points, surpassing Trina Kirsh-Ricketts’ 1,247 points. Little needs 91 points to tie Mary Carol Jackson for eighth place with 1,355 points.
Junior Melanie Herget (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) added 16 points, freshman Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) scored 13 and junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) had 12 in the victory, FSU’s fifth win in its last six outings.
The Bobcats (6-3, 3-0 AMCC) held a slight 9-7 lead at the 13:53 mark before taking control with a 21-0 run over the next 10 minutes. Little scored eight of her points in the outburst, including the final six to help increase FSU’s lead to 30-9.
FSU held as much as a 23-point cushion, 34-11, with 1:43 remaining in the first half before taking a 34-13 advantage at the break.
The Bobcats continued to pour it on in the second half, using a 19-0 run as part of a 32-3 stretch over the first 10 minutes of the period. Hernandez scored nine straight points for FSU to help her squad open a 68-16 lead with 9:25 to play.
Frostburg State shot 21-of-34 (61.8) in the second half, and Lake Erie (0-6, 0-3) committed 45 turnovers and shot just 9-of-41 for the game.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they host La Roche in another AMCC contest at 4:00 pm.
