Women's Basketball Thumps Mt. Aloysius

FROSTBURG, MD — Senior Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany) scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Frostburg State to a 78-45 win over Mount Aloysius in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Tuesday night at Bobcat Arena.

The Bobcats improved to 18-4 overall and 15-0 in the AMCC with their 11th straight victory and 14th win in their last 15 games. FSU’s winning streak is tied for the 10th longest active streak in Division III. The Mounties fell to 2-19 overall and 0-14 in the league.

The teams battled to an early 4-4 tie through the first minute and a half before the Bobcats took control with a 12-1 run. Little scored five of her points during the stretch en route to recording her 14th double-double of the season.

Mount Aloysius pulled to within 16-8 on a three-pointer by senior Missy Wertz, but FSU ripped off 13 straight points to open a commanding 29-8 lead with 10:50 to play in the first half.

Kristen Lytle snapped the streak with a layup at 9:15 before the Bobcats went on a 16-8 run capped by a Little layup to take their largest lead of the first half, 45-18, with 2:39 left.

Katie Martin and Shannon Reinert scored the last two baskets of the half for Mt. Aloysius as it cut the Bobcat deficit to 23, 45-22, at intermission.

Frostburg State continued to pour it on in the second half of action, scoring the first 15 points of the period to take a 60-22 cushion.

The Bobcats would lead by as much as 40, 64-24, on a layup by junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) with 12:10 to play.

Sophomore Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) added 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, while True finished with 12 points.

Wertz led the Mounties with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Frostburg State returns to action Friday as it hosts Medaille in another AMCC contest at 6:00 pm.
