Women's Basketball to Host Lake Erie in First Round of AMCC Tournament
02/18/2007

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State women’s basketball team will host Lake Erie in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Tuesday, February 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The No. 4 seeded Bobcats enter the tournament with a 17-8 overall record and a 12-6 AMCC mark while the Storm are just 9-13 overall but 10-7 in the league.

Frostburg State swept Lake Erie in the two regular season meetings. FSU downed LEC 74-71 back on January 15 at Bobcat Arena and earned a 78-59 win at Lake Erie earlier this afternoon in the regular-season finale for both schools.

The Bobcats enter the tournament on a seven-game winning streak with four of those victories coming at Bobcat Arena. Frostburg State also looks to continue its recent success against Lake Erie, having won seven in a row against the Storm dating back to the 2003-03 season.

LEC enters the tournament having lost two out of its final three contests. The Storm lost to Mt. Aloysius last Saturday 87-75 and FSU earlier today. However, the Storm defeated AMCC Tournament No. 2 seed Penn State Behrend 68-58 this past Wednesday.

For the second-straight year, the tournament semifinals and finals will take place in Buffalo N.Y. at Medaille. The top-seeded Mavericks are 21-4 overall and 17-1 in the league and are riding a 11-game winning streak. Penn State Behrend is the second seed with 20-4 record and a 15-3 AMCC slate.

No. 3 seeded Pitt-Greensburg (14-11, 12-6) hosts No. 6 Pitt-Bradford (9-14, 8-9) and the winner will advance to take on PSB in the semfinals.

The AMCC championship match is scheduled for Saturday, February 24 at 3:00 pm. The AMCC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
