FROSTBURG, MD —
Four players scored in double figures to lead Frostburg State to a 81-49 victory over visiting Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Altoona in women’s basketball action Tuesday evening at Bobcat Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the AMCC, while the Lions fell to 4-13 overall and 3-8 in the league.
FSU opened a 5-2 lead 2:35 into play off a freshman Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) layup. The Bobcats would dominate the rest of the half, leading by as much as 11 points, 20-9, at 7:44 off a three-pointer from junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber). The Lions would pull within 31-27 at the break.
In the second half, FSU went on an early 16-4 scoring run to take to a 47-31 advantage with 14:40 on the clock. The Bobcats would lead by as much as 34 points off a jumper by senior Joanie Herget (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) with 36 seconds in regulation.
George had a game-high 18 points, while Wright added 14 points. Junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) had a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, and senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) netted 11 points and added a team high six assists and six steals.
The Lions were led by Jenna Curley who had 11 points. Jamie Fogelsonger added 10 points.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, February 4 when they host La Roche for an AMCC contest beginning at 6:00 pm.
