— The Frostburg State University women’s basketball team scored the last eight points of the game to beat host Penn State Behrend 63-61, in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Senior Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany) hit two free throws with 28 seconds remaining to put the Bobcats (4-2, 2-0) ahead for good, 62-61. Junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) added a free throw with 12 seconds remaining to finish the scoring at 63-61.
FSU led by as many as 12 points on a jumper by sophomore Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), to give it a 46-34 lead with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
Penn State Behrend (3-2, 0-2) then went on a 19-5 run taking its first lead 53-51, since early in the first half, on a Bambi Lewis three pointer.
Sophomore Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) then hit two free throws to tie the game at 53, before another Lions 8-2 run would put the game at 61-55 and set up the dramatic comeback by the Bobcats.
FSU built an eight point halftime lead, 32-24, ending the first half on a 17-9 run. Junior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) scored four points and added four assists to lead Frostburg State in the half.
George led all Bobcat scorers with a season-high 16 points, with Little adding 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Watts had a career-high seven assists playing the entire game for FSU.
Tenesha Aden led Penn State Behrend with 22 points while Amber Krumpe added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Frostburg State returns to action next Friday when it plays Moravian in the Univ. of Scanton Diversified Invitational at 6:00 p.m.
