Women's Basketball Wins Tenth Straight Over Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, OH — Senior Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany) scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Frostburg State to an 87-29 victory over Lake Erie in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With this win, FSU improves to 17-4 overall and remains undefeated with a 14-0 mark in the AMCC. This was also the Bobcats’ tenth straight win, it’s longest streak since winning 14 straight games during the 1996-97 season.

Frostburg State jumped out to an early 8-0 lead with four points from junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton). The Bobcats would then go on a 10-2 run, ending on freethrows from freshman Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) to take an 18-2 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Storm would not get any closer as the the Bobcats held their biggest lead, 38-11, with 48 seconds left in the first half off a jumper by freshman Amber Perry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Suitland). FSU ended the half with a 38-14 lead.

Frostburg State continued to dominate the game as it went on a 14-0 scoring run ending on a lay-up from Little to take a 54-18 lead with 13 minutes remaining.

Junior Holly Steinacker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty (Frederick CC)) also scored in double digits with 10 points. Sophomore Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led the Bobcats with nine assists and four steals, while junior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County (CCBC-Catonsville)) added seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals.

Loni Sargent led Lake Erie with 11 points.

Frostburg State returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Mt. Aloysius in an AMCC contest at 6:00 pm.
