- Frostburg State ended its regular season conference schedule by defeating La Roche 4-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s soccer action Monday afternoon.
The Bobcats improved to 11-2-2 overall and 8-1 in the AMCC, while the Redhawks fell to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the AMCC. The win gives FSU the top seed and home field advantage in the AMCC Tournament which begins next week. The tournament pairings will be released late Tuesday evening.
Junior Jodie Gittleson (Rockville, Md./Wootton) started the scoring for the Bobcats in the 26th minute off a pass from sophomore Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville).
Six minutes later, junior Erin Carraghan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) headed in a corner kick by junior Beth Hlebasko (New Market, Md./Linganore), making the score 2-0 at halftime.
Carter then scored in the 67th minute off an assist from Carraghan.
In the 70th minute, senior Karen Kotofski (Glen Burnie, Md./Northeast) scored an unassisted goal to seal the victory.
The Bobcats dominated the Redhawks with a 35-5 advantage in shots, including a 20-0 margin in the first half. La Roche could not get a shot off until the 52nd minute.
Senior goalie Kelly Jones (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) made two saves to pick up her third shutout this season. She improved to 8-2-1 overall and lowered her goals against average to 0.74.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday afternoon as they host Villa Julie at 3:30 pm to close their regular-season schedule.
