— The Frostburg State women’s soccer team defeated Penn State Behrend 2-0 to earn a share of first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Saturday afternoon on senior day.
The Bobcats improved to 9-2-2 overall and 6-1 in the AMCC while the Lions fell to 10-3-1 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, which featured a 30-minute stopage due to thunder in the 31st minute. FSU’s best oppurtunity came in the 28th minute when a header by senior Karen Kotofski (Glen Burnie, Md./Northeast) was saved by Lion keeper Colleen Applebaugh.
In the 49th minute, Kotofski scored on a penalty kick after being tackled in the 18-yard box to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
FSU sealed the victory in the 67th minute when junior Beth Hlebasko (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored on a 40-yard shot off a feed from sophomore Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville).
Senior Kelly Jones (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) recorded six saves to pick up her seventh win and third shutout of the season.
Frostburg State outshot Penn State Behrend 16-9.
The Bobcats are back in action as they host La Roche on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
