FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville)
scored three goals to lead the Frostburg State women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win over Pitt-Bradford, Saturday afternoon in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.
The Bobcats (2-5-1, 1-0) wasted little time scoring just 1:39 into the game when freshman Tricia Richardson (Gibson Island, Md./St. Mary's) knocked in a header over the Pitt-Bradford (2-4-1, 0-1) keeper, Joelle Wolters.
Just over eight minutes later, junior Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) scored off a feed from senior Jodi Gittleson (Rockville, Md./Wootton) giving FSU a 2-0 lead.
Frostburg State continued to apply the pressure taking four of the next five shots before Hoffman scored her second goal of the game when she slipped a shot past Wolters outstretched arms giving the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage.
FSU attempted seven more shots but was unable to find the net. At halftime, the score remained 3-0 in favor of the Bobcats.
The second stanza started just like the first as FSU scored just 1:56 into the half on a goal by Carter. At 64:40, Carter scored her second goal of the afternoon to push the lead to 5-0.
A 1:07 later, sophomore Jen Naylor (Riva, Md./St. Mary's) took a shot that Wolters was unable to handle and Carter brought the scoring to a close, netting her third goal of the afternoon.
Sophomore Molly Whyte (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) recorded just her second with of the season facing just one shot. Wolters suffered the loss making an impressive 13 saves.
Frostburg State returns to action Tuesday, September 27 when they host Mt. Aloysius at 4:00 pm.
