- The Bobcats fell behind early and could never recover as Mary Washington came into Frostburg and left a 4-1 winner Sunday afternoon. Frostburg State gave up two goals in the first half and closed to within one, but then lost momentum as the Eagles added two more.
In the first half, a penalty kick for the Eagles gave them an early 1-0 lead. Frostburg State tried to counter but could not outrun Mary Washington’s quick defenders. Then with eight seconds remaining in the first half, the Eagles were able to add an insurance goal on a bouncing ball that was flicked over a charging Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) who pulled down seven saves for FSU.
The Bobcats were able to cut the lead in half as sophomore Alyse Reed (Cherry Hill East/Cherry Hill, N.J.) was able to take a serve from freshman Erin Carraghan (Walkersville/Walkersville, Md.) and flick it over the reach of Eagle goalkeeper Mary Fulco.
That was as close as the game would get, as the Eagles were able to take advantage behind goals from Jill Pamieri and Betsey Pitti.
The Bobcats will look to rebound on Tuesday as they will host conference opponent La Roche at 4:00 p.m.
