WASHINGTON, D.C. —
Suzie Peters scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute to lead Catholic to a 3-2 win over Frostburg State, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats fall to 1-3 overall on the year while Catholic improved to 3-2.
CUA scored first when Kate Rosenberg found the back of the net off a corner kick at 15:35. The ball bounced around in the 18-yard box before Rosenberg was able to get a foot on it.
Freshman Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North) evened the score seven minutes later when she scored her first goal as a Bobcat. Senior Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) was credited with the assist.
With a little under five minutes left in the first half, Diana Napolitano gave the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage when she scored on penalty kick.
FSU would again answer, tying the ballgame at 2-2 in the 60th minute of action. Freshman Amanda Drake (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) took a shot that Catholic keeper Kimberly Stengle saved, but was unable to control, and Drake hammered home the rebound for her first goal of the season.
In the end, Catholic proved to be too much as Peters’ goal gave the hosts the win.
CUA held the advantage in shots, 24-9, including a 14-4 spread in the second half.
Sophomore Molly Whyte (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made nine saves in a losing effort while Stengle stopped three shots.
The Bobcats return to action on September 16 when they travel to Allegheny at 1:00 pm.
