ERIE, PA —
The jinx that has plagued the Frostburg State women's soccer team against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend continued Saturday afternoon, as the Lions edged the Bobcats, 3-2, and won the right to host the AMCC Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
The Lions (8-9-1, 6-0 AMCC) notched the game-winner in the 83rd minute when a Bobcat defender kicked an attempted clearing shot off the side of her foot and into her own net.
The Bobcats (15-4, 5-1 AMCC), who haven't beaten Behrend in eight all-time meetings, opened the scoring in the game's 11th minute when senior Amy Foote (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) found the net with an assist from freshman Karen Kotofski (Glen Burnie, Md./Northeast).
Penn State Behrend pulled even on freshman Maria Gahagen's goal in the 19th minute, and the teams went to the locker room tied, 1-1.
The Lions took the lead for good when sophomore Aubrey Nicksich scored in the 82nd minute before benefitting from the FSU miscue just over a minute later.
Foote brought the Bobcats to within one, 3-2, by converting a penalty kick in the 85th minute, extending her school career records to 47 goals and 115 points.
Sophomore goalie Stephanie Zych (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) made four saves in the loss.
Pairings and times of Friday's AMCC Tournament semifinals should be announced Sunday evening.
