Women's Soccer Makes Comeback But Falls Late to Westminster
09/10/2002

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - The Frostburg State women’s soccer team (0-1-2) made a tremendous comeback, but fell late in the second half to host Westminster College, 3-2.

Down 2-0 at halftime, the Bobcats rallied with a pair of goals to tie the contest. However, the Titans netted the game-winner in the 85th minute to hand FSU its first loss of the year.

"In every match we learn something about our team, today we proved we can come back from a two goal deficit," said Parker. "We just did not have enough to maintain that momentum."

Down 2-0 in the 55th minute, freshman midfielder Jodie Gittleson (Wooten/Rockville, Md.) took her possession and drove a shot from about 25 yards out over the goalkeeper's reach to bring the Bobcats to within one goal.

Ten minutes later, sophomore midfielder Alyse Reed (Cherry Hill East/Cherry Hill, N.J.) took a feed from Erika Neuser (Fallston/Forest Hill, Md.) and drove another 25-yard shot over the reach of the Westminster keeper to tie the game at 2-2.

With the score even, the game picked up physically and the pace increased even in the difficult conditions with the heat, humidity and field conditions.

In the 85th minute, a break away for Westminster led to the game-winning goal.

Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) helped FSU maintain the momentum as in the second half she made some tremendously athletic saves on her way to posting eight saves for the match.

The Bobcats return to action on Thurdsay when they visit Bethany (W.Va.) at 4:30 p.m.
