FROSTBURG, MD —
Sophomore Karen Kotofski (Northeast Glen Burnie, Md.)
scored with 3:07 remaining in regulation and found the net again with 2:41 left in the second overtime to give Frostburg State an exciting 2-1 win over visiting Villa Julie Thursday afternoon.
The Mustangs (5-6) opened the scoring in the game's 12th minute when Adrienne Justis sent a pass across the box to Lori Zimmerman, who beat Bobcat junior Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) to give VJC a 1-0 lead.
Frostburg State (5-3-3), which snapped a two-game losing streak, pulled even in the waning minutes of the second half.
Sophomore Laurie Reinholt (Glasgow/Middleton, Del.) sent a long pass ahead to freshman Erin Carraghan (Walkersville/Walkersville, Md.), who flicked the ball over to Kotofski. Kotofski then turned and blasted a shot past Mustang keeper Gina Cinquegrani to force overtime.
In the second extra session, Kotofski collected a bouncing ball in the box off a corner and found the net for her team-leading 10th goal of the season to lift FSU to the hard-fought win.
Freshman Beth Hlebasko (Linganore/New Market, Md.) notched her second assist of the year on the game-winning tally.
Zych made two saves to improve to 5-3-3 on the season. She now has 27 career wins is just over 2 1/2 seasons and need two more victories to tie Jessica Richardson's all-time school record of 29 set from 1997-2000.
The Bobcats, who held a commanding 21-7 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks, return to action on October 5 when they visit Eastern Mennonite for a 1:00 pm contest.
