FROSTBURG, Md. -
The Frostburg State women’s soccer team has recently released its 2007 schedule and the Bobcats will take on some of the nation’s finest programs this coming fall.
Frostburg State looks to continue its recent postseason success having earned a spot in either the NCAA Tournament or the ECAC Tournament in each of the last six seasons. The Bobcats have also captured the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Title from 2001-2005.
This season, the Bobcats have their work cut out for them as they face five 2006 NCAA Tournament participants and two teams that finished the season ranked in the top-25 according to the final NSCAA Poll; the College of New Jersey and Johns Hopkins.
Frostburg State opens the season at the ElizabethtownTournament including its opening game against TCNJ, who was a 2006 National Finalist. In the second game of the opening weekend, FSU will face ‘06 NCAA Tournament participant Elizabethtown.
After the tournament, the Bobcats endure a rough six-game non-conference schedule that includes Johns Hopkins (18-2-1), Villa Julie (15-8), Eastern Mennonite (13-4-1) and Hood (10-5-3). Last season, FSU lost to Eastern Mennonite 1-0 in overtime and fell to JHU 5-0.
The Bobcats open AMCC action on Saturday, Sept. 22 with Lake Erie at 1:00 pm. The 22nd also happens to be Soccer Parents Weekend.
Frostburg State then squares off against Catholic (11-8-1) on Sept. 26 before playing AMCC opponents over the final eight games of the regular season. During that stretch, the Bobcats will have Senior Day and Homecoming festivities on Oct. 21 when they host Pitt-Bradford at 1:00 pm.
Frostburg State enters its sixth season under the direction of Head Coach Brian Parker and looks to improve on its 63-29-10 overall record during that span.
"The commitment level among our returning players is as high as ever and our recruiting class looks very good," said Parker. "I think our program is ready to compete with some of the nation’s best teams and we're excited to play a top flight team right out of the gate in 2007."
