- The Frostburg State University women’s soccer program is set to open its official spring season as they will face Shippensburg University April 2nd. The Bobcats will play four games in April, including games against two Division I and two Division II teams.
FSU will face West Virginia Wesleyan (April 16th @ 5:30 pm), UMBC (April 23rd @ 6:30 pm), Mount Saint Mary’s (April 30th @ 6:00 pm) along with Shippensburg (April 2nd @ 7:30 pm) in the month of April.
“It is a chance to really test ourselves against good Division I and II competition in the area that wouldn’t normally schedule us in the fall,” said Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year Brian Parker.
Parker, who will be entering his third season as head coach, will look forward to the upcoming fall season as he returns all but one of the teams players. The loss of senior goalkeeper Stephanie Zych, who holds a majority of the programs single season and career goalkeeper records, will be difficult. Parker will rely on junior Karen Kotofski, who was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, and freshman Danielle Carter, who was named AMCC Rookie of the Year.
“The spring season is all about developing our players in a challenging environment and this spring we will certainly do that,” said Parker.
The Bobcats are coming off of a season in which they won their third straight AMCC crown, going undefeated throughout the regular season and the tournament. They also received their third straight NCAA tournament bid and won their first round match-up against Westminster College.
“After the fall we had, our players are ready to get outside and play so we are pretty anxious to begin,” said Parker.
