- Sophomore Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville)
netted her third hat-trick of the season as the visiting Bobcats beat Villa Julie College, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon.
FSU (12-2-2) dominated for much of the first half, outshooting the Mustangs 15-2, but was unable to get a goal as the first half ended in a scoreless tie.
Carter scored eight minutes into the second half off a long ball assist from junior Teri Galt (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) to give Frostburg State a 1-0 lead.
Carter would then score two minutes apart starting in the 63rd minute when she knocked in a pass from junior Jodie Gittleson (Rockville, Md./Wootton), before scoring her third goal of the day unassisted in the 65th minute.
Villa Julie (7-10) would add a late goal to finish the scoring at 3-1.
Junior goalie Meredith Remus (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air (WVU)) played the second half and made two saves to gather the win.
“We are playing very well at the right time of year,” said Head Coach Brian Parker. “I feel very good about making a run at the conference title this year.”
The Bobcats return to action next Wednesday when they host a semifinal game in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament, against the winner of Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 p.m.
