Women's Swimming & Diving Capture Second Consecutive AMCC Crown

GROVE CITY, PA — The Frostburg State women's swimming and diving team captured its second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title as part of the Grove City College Invitational this past weekend.

The Bobcats tied for first with Penn State Behrend with 232 points, while Penn State Altoona finished a distant third with 170.5 points.

FSU, which finished tied for fifth overall out of 10 teams at the highly competitive meet, turned in four top-seven performances in the relay events.

Junior Siona Walsh (St. Albans, Vt./Bellow Free Academy), junior Lauren Crystal (Baltimore, Md./Atholton), junior Jessie Bley (Fort Washington, Md./Gwynn Park) and senior Alex Morrison (Baltimore, Md./Toms River East (N.J.)) teamed for a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:31.63.

Bley and Morrison then joined freshmen Kim Kaiser (Severna Park, Md./Severna) and Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) to place seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 9:20.54, and Bley, Hanna, Crystal and Walsh added a seventh-place showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:59.05.

Walsh, Crystal, Kaiser and Hanna capped the relay events with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:50.92.

In the individual events, Bley posted three top-15 finishes. She set a personal-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing ninth in 11:59.82, finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 20:29.15 and added another personal record in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 15th in 5:47.10.

Senior Cindy Reese (Westminster, Md./Westminster) enjoyed a fine meet, finishing fifth in the 3-meter diving with an AMCC and personal-record 311.70 points. She also placed seventh in the 1-meter diving with 274.80 points.

Morrison set another AMCC record in the 200-yard butterfly by finishing ninth in 2:35.49, and she was ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in a personal-best 1:08.28.

Crystal turned in an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.04 and finished tied Walsh for 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-record 58.99.

Walsh was 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.66 and set a personal record in the qualifying round of the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.79.

Other strong performers were Hanna, who was 12th in the 100-yard butterfly in a personal-best 1:11.51; Kaiser, who was 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:23.07; and junior Laura Jacquette (Chestertown, Md./Kent County), who finished 16th in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes in 1:26.08 and 3:05.83, respectively.
