Women's Swimming & Diving Ends Season With Strong Effort at Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, PA — The Frostburg State women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its season with a great showing at the Grove City Invitational last weekend.

The Bobcats scored 273 points to finish fifth out of 10 squads. Combined with the men's 442 points, FSU placed fourth in the combined standings with 715 points.

"I was very proud of all of our swimmers and divers this weekend," said Bobcat first-year head coach Troy Strieby. "It was an impressive display of team effort to place fourth overall."

Sophomore Kristin Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.) led FSU with fourth-place finishes in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.26) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.31), and she was also sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.23).

Sophomore Heather Hamor (Lackey/Nanjemoy, Md.) was eighth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:30.58), ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:26.74) and 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.19), while junior Melody Hanna (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) was eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.03), 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (57.53) and 12th in the 50-yard freestyle (personal-record 26.36).

Sophomore Erin Young (Glasgow/Newark, Del.) placed ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.73), 10th in the 400-yard individual medley (5:19.34) and 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.05).

Junior Audrey Shipe (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) finished fourth in the three-meter diving (246.25 points) and fifth in the one-meter diving (253.40), and senior Kelly Jones (Glenelg/Woodbine, Md.) was sixth in the one-meter dive (191.25).

Freshman Amy Contino (Cumberland Regional/Bridgton, N.J.) placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.85), 15th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.76) and 19th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:34.33), while fellow freshman Megan Falls (Kingsway Regional/Swedesboro, N.J.) was 13th in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:02.18) and 14th in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.07) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.52).

Senior Kerri Wolfensberger (North Hagerstown/Hagerstown, Md.) was 17th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:53.61) and 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.26), while junior Laura Thomas (Oxon Hill/Oxon Hill, Md.) placed 18th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.51) and 21st in the 200-yard backstroke (2:44.98).

Junior Kim Kaiser (Severna Park/Severna Park, Md.) finished 21st in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.07) and the 200-yard breaststroke (3:02.95).

In the relays, Contino, Young, Moats and Hanna tied for fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.68), while Hamor, Falls, Hanna and Moats were fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:38.22).

Moats, Contino, Young and Hanna teamed to finish seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.33) and Moats, Young, Hanna and Hamor were seventh in the 400-yard medley relay (4:25.09).
