Women's Swimming and Diving Sixth, Men Seventh at Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Frostburg State women’s swimming and diving team finished sixth out of 11 teams while the men placed seventh out of 11 teams at the Grove City Invitational held this past weekend at Grove City College.

Senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.64) and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.18).

She teamed with junior Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) and freshman Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) to finish fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:45.79), sixth in the 400-yard medley relay (4:22.30), sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:26.38)

Moats placed eighth (2:19.50) in the 200-yard individual medley, ninth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.65) and 11th in the 200-yard breastroke (2:41.11)

Dunnigan placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:58.26), sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.88) and seventh in 400-yard individual medley (5:01.46).

Moats, Hamor, Hanna and freshman Julie Groetzinger (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) teamed to finish fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.57

Sophomore Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) placed 16th in the 500-yard freestyle in the time of 5:51.66.

Freshman Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) placed 16th in the 1,650 freestyle with a mark of 21:03.01.

On the men’s side, junior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) finished in the top-five in three events as he set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.44 finishing fifth at the meet. He also finished fourth (53.83) in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle in a time of 47.47

Williams also competed in four relay events. He joined classmates Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) and sophomore Tom Sandor (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) to finish fifth in the 800-yard freestyle (7:44.77), seventh in the 400-yard medley relay (4:05.61), seventh in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.06), and seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.62).

Leaman finished eighth (17:58.79) in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placed ninth (4:43.32) in the 400-yard individual medley and 15th in 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.08.

Sophomore Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) finished 14th (11:59.06) in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Junior Steve Ramsey (Olney, Md./Magruder) was eighth in the 3-meter diving with a score of 162.55.

Sophomores Matt Nestor (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall) and Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville), junior Calvin Kiple (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) and freshman Allen Miller (Seabrook, Md./DuVal) placed ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.10.

Frostburg State returns to action February 25th-27th at the ECAC Championships.
