Women's Tennis Blanked by St. Mary's
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD —
St. Mary's College of Maryland swept all three doubles matches and won four singles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-0 win over visiting Frostburg State Thursday afternoon.
The Seahawks began the match by capturing the three doubles flights.
Trisha Becker and Jane Doud downed Bobcat sophomore Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) and freshman Jennifer Zviman (Aberdeen/Aberdeen, Md.), 8-3, at top tandem spot, and Norah Harwood and Carolyn Barndt followed with an 8-3 victory over sophomore Susan Adkins (Archbishop Spalding/Millersville, Md.) and junior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Frostburg, Md.) at the No. 2 flight.
Laura Pocanowsky and Yaffa Seiden then blanked junior Rachel Sooy (Arundel/Crofton, Md.) and freshman Enleina Blachewicz (Patterson/Baltimore, Md.), 8-0, at the third spot.
St. Mary's had little trouble in singles play, dropping just 10 games in four matches. Doud was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Zviman at No. 2, Pocanowsky posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Adkins at No. 3, and Seiden shutout Sooy, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Erin Doyle completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Blachewicz at the No. 6 flight.
The top singles match between Getz and Harwood was suspended due to rain, as was the No. 4 flight between Mendoza and Barndt.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday at La Roche beginning at 2:00 pm and will then compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday at Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa.
