The Frostburg State women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and claimed five of the six singles contests en route to an impressive 8-1 win over Pittsburgh-Greensburg in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats had little trouble in the doubles sweep. Juniors Christina Miserandino (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Becky Allnutt (Frederick, Md./Catoctin) teamed for an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot, and juniors Kathy Arnold (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) and Laura Efird (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) paired for an 8-1 win at No. 2.
Freshman Lisa Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomore Dana Braskey (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) completed the doubles shutout with an 8-2 victory at the third flight.
In singles play, Miserandino opened with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker win in the first game at the top flight before closing out her match with a 6-2 victory in game two.
Allnutt improved to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the AMCC with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Lori Johnston at No. 2, and Arnold followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the third flight.
Efird and freshman Kayce Kerr (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) were indentical 6-2, 6-3 winners at the Nos. 4 and 6 spots, respectively.
Braskey was the lone Bobcat to fall in singles play, dropping a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 match at the fifth flight.
Frostburg State is now 5-7 overall and 3-4 in AMCC action, Pittsburgh-Greensburg fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the AMCC.
The Bobcats will return to action in the AMCC Tournament on October 21 at Penn State Altoona.
