FROSTBURG, MD -
Frostburg State lost a close competition to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend on Saturday, 5-4.
FSU bested Behrend in their first meeting of the season, 5-4, but was unable to repeat as Behrend ended the day winning four of six singles matches and improving its record to 1-2 in the AMCC.
Junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) won her duel at the first singles spot, besting Amber Weckowski, 6-3,6-2, while senior Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) won her contest at second singles, 7-5,6-1 over Mindy Calvert.
At third singles, freshman Meghan Hess (Centiennial/Ellicott City, Md.) dropped her first match of the season to Christie Leininger, 6-0,6-2 while senior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Lexington Park, Md.) dropped her match at the fourth spot to Jenna Yankowski, 6-4,6-1.
Freshman Kierstin Elia (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) lost at the fifth spot to Amy Frizzell, 6-2,6-0 and senior Dawn Zimmerman (Linganore/Frederick, Md.) lost her match at the sixth station to Jenny Zhang, 6-0,6-3
In doubles, Getz and Bleivik tallied their seventh win of the season, besting Weckowski and Calvert, 8-1.
At the second doubles slot, Hess and Elia were downed by Leininger and Yankowski, 8-1 and Mendoza and junior Susan Adkins (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) combined for an 8-6 win at third doubles over Frizzell and Zhang.
The Bobcats (4-9)(1-3 AMCC) return to action on Monday, Sept. 29, against host Washington & Jefferson at 3:00 p.m.
