- Women’s Tennis traveled to Penn State Behrend on Saturday to participate in the Penn State Behrend Invitational. They started off the year strong, but could not come away with a victory this weekend. At the Invitational FSU took on IUP, Alfred University and Penn State Behrend and ended the afternoon losing to all three matches.
First match up was against IUP, where the Bobcats struggled to begin the year as they dropped all five matches winning only 3 games out of the 43 played. Knowing that they were just getting warmed up, Alfred University was next on FSU’s list. Again the Bobcats could not get things going dropping the match 5-0 and again only winning 3 out of the 43 games played.
Last up at the Invitational was a preview of conference competitor and host Penn State Behrend and the Bobcats fell a third time 4-1.
The only bright spot was FSU’s only win coming from sophomore Kirsten Getz (Frostburg, Md./Beall) as she defeated Behrend’s number one singles 8-3.
For Frostburg State the late match against Behrend provided some improvement in each individuals game and some close matches early hurt their chances late in the day.
The match up against Penn State was a quick preview for the Bobcats as they were scheduled to open conference play the following day at Penn State Behrend.
