GIBSONIA, Pa. —
Frostburg State placed six players on the 2006 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women’s Tennis team.
Junior Heather Potosnak (Easton, Md./Montville Township (N.J.)) and freshman Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the way after being named to the all-conference second team for their play in both singles and doubles action.
Potosnak was named to the second team after finishing runner-up at the AMCC Championships in No. 1 singles, losing to Penn State Behrend’s Allison Mudrey in the finals, 6-1, 6-0. Potosnak finished the season 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Shedd was a second-team honoree in No. 4 singles after capturing second place at the conference championships. Shedd posted a 10-5 record this past season including a 4-2 league slate. She also finished the season with six wins in her final eight matches.
Together, Potosnak and Shedd combined to take home second-team honors in No. 1 doubles, losing to Penn State Altoona’ s Pia Capra and Brianna Alianiello in the finals, 8-5. Potosnak and Shedd finished the season with a 5-4 overall mark and a 3-1 league record.
Junior Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was named to the second team in No. 2 singles. In the league championships, she downed Chatham’s Kaylee Johns in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0, but fell to Penn State Altoona’s Alianiello in the finals, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Eisel finished the fall season with a 10-8 record including a 4-2 mark in the AMCC.
Junior Jenn Tolbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) was awarded second-team honors after finishing second in the conference championships in No. 3 singles. She defeated PSA’s Lauren Pannebaker in the opening round (6-4, 3-6, 7-6) but lost to PSB’s Christy Calvert in the finals (6-1, 6-2). Tolbert ended the season with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-2 AMCC record.
Junior Amy Brenneman (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) and sophomore Alex Buchanan (Stockton, Md./Pocomoke) also earned second-team honors after capturing second place in No. 3 doubles in the league championships.
They defeated Penn State Behrend’s Jen Balsiger and Amy Brem in the semifinals, 8-6, before losing to Katie DiBartolo and Jenna Francisco of Penn State Altoona, 8-1, in the finals. They combined to finish the season 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.
The Bobcats closed out their season with a 7-9 overall record and an even 3-3 league mark.
