CENTREVILLE, Mass. —
Frostburg State junior Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.)
was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance in the Bobcats' run to their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title this past weekend.
Zych made eight saves in FSU's 2-1 overtime win over Pitt-Greensburg in the AMCC semifinals, in which the Bobcats played a man down for the final 57 minutes.
She then helped propel FSU to a thrilling win over top-seeded La Roche, 3-1 in penalty kicks, in the conference championship match.
After allowing two goals in regulation, Zych shut down the Redhawks in two overtimes and then stopped two of three shots in the shootout round as the Bobcats pulled off the upset.
Zych, FSU's career leader in wins (32), shutouts (14) and saves (336), is second in the AMCC with a 1.31 goals against average. At the same time, she has played over 900 more minutes, has 29 more saves and two more shutouts than the league's top-ranked goalie.
