STUDENT DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST
POSITION NO.: 10-010338-WEB

Student Support Services (SSS), seeks applications for the position Student Development Specialist. This is a full-time, exempt position and includes USM benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES: SSS is designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of low income and first generation college students as well as individuals with disabilities. This position reports to the Director of Student Support Services and participates in a comprehensive academic, personal, social and financial support program designed to help participants attain their educational goals. Duties include, but are not limited to: tutoring; advising; teaching Introduction to Higher Education; monitoring academic progress & financial aid status of participants; assisting participants with graduate school and job applications; and assisting with report preparation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Education, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, or related area. At least two year's experience working in an educational role; effective oral and written communication skills; and competency in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year experience with underprepared or educationally disadvantaged college students. Experience working in a TRIO or similar program, previous participation in a TRIO or similar program, or experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the participants.
