The Ort Library provides several brief video tutorials to help with online library research sources, primarily Catalog USMAI and Research Port.

Catalog USMAI Tutorials

  • Basic Catalog Search (Flash - 3:30 min):
    This video demonstrates how to conduct a basic catalog search for a book and how to interpret catalog records.
  • Advanced Catalog Search (Flash - 4:59 min):
    Here you see some advanced strategies to search for items in the catalog and expertly limit your search to retrieve the items you need.

Research Port Tutorials

  • Research Port: An Overview (Flash - 2:36 min):
    This video demonstrates how to navigate the Research Port screen to select the appropriate databases by subject category or name.
  • Using "Find It": (Flash - 6:49 min):
    Here you see how the yellow "Find It" button in Research Port can link you to the full-text sources of the articles you need. "Find It" works in Catalog USMAI, too!
     

EBSCOhost  Database Tutorials

Research Port comprises 60 different research databases and half of those are hosted on the EBSCO platform sharing similar search screens. Below are links to tutorials created by EBSCOhost:

  • EBSCOhost Basic Searching (YouTube - 3 min):
    This tutorial demonstrates a basic search that works on many EBSCO databases.
  • EBSCOhost Advanced Searching (YouTube - 3 min):
    The EBSCOhost advanced screen lets you enter multiple terms and use limiters to refine your article search.
  • My EBSCOhost Folders (YouTube - 5 min):
    This video shows you how to personalize the EBSCO databases to save your searches into customized folders and unleash other powerful productivity features.
  • eBooks on EBSCOhost (YouTube - 4 min):
    The Ort Library has access to a vast collection of eBooks online through the eBooks on EBSCOhost database. This tutorial shows you how to find them! eBooks are also linked in Catalog USMAI.
  • Business Searching Interface (YouTube - 4 min):
    This video shows you how to navigate the Business Searching Interface of the database Business Source Complete, which is accessible in Research Port. The Business Search Interface is especially beneficial for research in the areas of Business and Marketing
  • CINAHL with Full Text: Basic Searching (YouTube - 4 min):
    This tutorial demonstrates basic searching in an important EBSCO database for the study on Nursing.
