Casselman Coal Basin

The Casselman Coal Basin lies between Negro Mountain on the west and Meadow Mountain to the east. The Basin is approximately 15 miles long and 6 miles wide and extends from Deep Creek Lake to the Pennsylvania state line. The most important seams in the basin are the Lower Bakerstown, Upper Freeport and Upper Kittanning.

DATA SOURCE LINEAGE

In 2004-2005 mine boundaries were delineated on USGS 1:24,000-scale Topographic Maps and then digitized by the Maryland Bureau of Mines, Frostburg, MD office. In cooperation with Frostburg State University, the Maryland Bureau of Mines is updating and validating this GIS coverage.
