Upper Youghiogheny Coal Basin

The Upper Youghiogheny Basin is located in western Garrett County and is seperated from West Virginia by Shaggy Mountain. The basin is about 9 miles long and about 5 miles at its widest point. Mining activity is relatively minimal in this basin.

DATA SOURCE LINEAGE

In 2004-2005 mine boundaries were delineated on USGS 1:24,000-scale Topographic Maps and then digitized by the Maryland Bureau of Mines, Frostburg, MD office. In cooperation with Frostburg State University, the Maryland Bureau of Mines is updating and validating this GIS coverage.
