Frostburg State University made the grade in having a green campus when it received a score of 85 in the Princeton Review’s “Green Rating” of colleges.

The Green Rating is a numerical score of 60 to 99 that the Princeton Review tallied for 534 colleges and universities based on data it collected from the schools in the 2007-08 academic year concerning their environmentally related policies, practices and academic offerings. FSU’s score of 85 is in the top half of that ranking, just 5 points short of other competing institutions heralded in the Princeton Review’s “Green Rating Honor Roll.”

“Frostburg State University became a signatory member of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment in April 2007, and since then, we’ve done everything from purchasing hybrids and boosting recycling efforts to installing low-flow showerheads and energy-efficient light bulbs throughout the campus,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter. “FSU also has strong academic programs in place that cover various areas of environmental education and its own wind-and-solar energy system. I’m proud of us for accomplishing so much in a short amount of time, and I know our efforts to practice sustainability and create a greener campus will only continue to grow.”

The Princeton Review created the Green Rating to help students identify schools that are committed to environmental issues in their practices, use of resources and academic and research programs.
