On Sept. 5, Frostburg State University and fitness star Scott Cole will introduce a science- and wellness-centered initiative to promote health practices and education among college students and the local community, thanks to a $228,225 contribution from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

FSU’s planned programming for “Creating Healthy, Informed, Lasting Lifestyles (CHILL),” includes preventative student health screenings, smoking and substance abuse prevention and the development of a variety of campus-wide-activities and educational outreach efforts that encourage exercise and nutrition.

“Health and wellness are a huge part of the important life skills students develop while they’re in college, and FSU is committed to expanding educational outreach in this area,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter.

On Sept. 5, national wellness expert Scott Cole leads a campus-wide workshop and discussion for students, faculty, staff and residents. Cole will talk to FSU audiences from noon to 1 p.m. in FSU’s Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall, located in the Lane University Center. A 2-mi. campus-wide walk led by FSU’s health and physical education students follows Cole’s presentation at 1 p.m. A Wellness Fair featuring various FSU offices and organizations will be held in the Lane University Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The afternoon of health and wellness activities is free and open to the public.

Cole earned the title of National Aerobic Champion, starred in the top-selling “Abs of Steel” video series, and created DVD programs “Millennium Stretch,” “Discover Tai Chi” and “Get Fit America for Kids” (Winner of NAPPA Best Fitness DVD). Named one of the Top 5 Fitness Instructors in the world by IDEA, Cole has dedicated his life to increasing “wellness literacy” by giving talks and demonstrations throughout the world.
