The Umdabu African Dance Company will perform at Frostburg State University on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Lane University Center's Alice R. Manicur Hall.
Hosted by the Black Student Alliance as part of FSU's celebration of Black History Month, this event is free and open to the public.
The Umdabu Dance Company, based in Birmingham, Ala., is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of traditional Zulu culture through dance. The Company presents dances within their social, cultural and historical context through a variety of theatrical vignettes.
Umdabu leader and choreographer Johannes "Jomo" Xulu has worked with professional dance companies in South Africa, Great Britain and the United States, including the acclaimed Soweto Street Beat Dance Company and the Adzido Pan-African Dance Ensemble.
